WE SHALL NEVER DENY OUR ROOTS
WΕ SHALL NEVER DENY OUR ROOTS
«Greeks throughout their long history, have achieved things that can only make them proud»
I am a KYRENIAN of Hellenic origin and my roots date back to the distant past, many centuries ago when ancient Greeks arrived and colonized Cyprus. Let historians deal with historical events, I shall be confined to my own feelings. Our Greek ancestors, after development of the Hellenic civilization and its dissemination to the countries surrounding Eastern Mediterranean, they aimed towards its expansion to countries as far as India to the East and Gibraltar to the West. Hellenic culture and language have been dominant on the small island ever since, despite different peoples who came, conquered Cyprus and were either assimilated by the indigenous population or fled. Turks invaded Cyprus in 1974 under false pretenses, with the purpose of pursuing ethnic cleansing in the provinces of Kyrenia and Famagusta. They have since installed geopolitical, cultural, religious alterations to a separate state created by the force of arms in the north, which has only been recognized by Turkey. The Republic of Cyprus, although unable to exercise jurisdiction over the entire territory, continues to be recognized as the sole government of the island by the international community. As a Member State of the United Nations Organization and of the European Union, the Republic of Cyprus enjoys full rights granted by international law, despite Turkey’s refusal to recognize it.
Everything was built on our land by us and our glorious ancestors, over centuries of continued Hellenic cultural domination on the island. A fact recorded in history and evidenced by the inscriptions and the style of architecture on monuments that have come to light over the years in archaeological excavations. There is no doubt that the entire expand of land and whatever lies under it, as well as the sea and submarine wealth of its exclusive economic zone (EEZ) prescribed by the United Nations convention of the law of the sea, belongs to the legitimate inhabitants of Cyprus and to nobody else.
